This paper reviews five suah methods for phreatia line adjustment, and reports the results of a set of aomparison tests for assessing their relat ive performanae in terms of (a) position of the phreatia line, (b) pore pressures, and (a) estim ation of seepage flow rates. It is aonaluded that the method used for the adjustment of the phreatia line makes no signifiaant differenae to the results obtained in prinaipal appliaations and the ahoiae of method depends, there fore, on its suitability for the partiaular applia ation and the ease with whiah it aan be implemented.

Investigation Phreatic Line Slope in Irrigation Channels Embankment of Mianab Irrigation and Drainage Network Using SEEP/W Model
One of the problems of existing irrigation networks is seepage phenomena. Seepage problem and its control in irrigation channels is one of the most important issues in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of these channels. In this study, simulated the rate of seepage and phreatic lines in the Mianab irrigation and drainage channels located in the Karun basin using mathematical t...
متن کاملSeepage Analysis through Rockfill Dams by Finite Element Method in a Fixed Gird
In this paper, Forchheimer equation is used as the constitutive equation for flow through rockfill, and the non-linear two-dimensional governing equation with free surface is solved by a new finite element method in a fixed grid. The model is verified by applying it to different flow conditions. The first scenario, which is assumed to be one-dimensional with analytical solution available for it...

متن کاملTransient seepage model for saturated-unsaturated soil systems: a geotechnical engineering approach
A two-dimensional finite element model is proposed to simulate transient seepage for complex groundwater flow systems. The complete soil system is treated as a continuum encompassing flow in both saturated and unsaturated zones. In the unsaturated zone, the air phase is assumed to be continuous and open to atmospheric pressure. The coefficient of permeability of the unsaturated soil is assumed ...
متن کاملImpact of soil deformation on phreatic line in earth-fill dams
Generally seepage analysis and stress–strain analysis are conducted separately in the analysis of dams with varied water levels, which neglects the impact of soil deformation on seepage. The impact, however, is significant when the water level varies greatly. In this study, a simplified approach for consolidation analysis of unsaturated soil is used to conduct numerical simulations of water-fil...
